بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Allah has preserved His religion, made it manifest and strengthened it by men true to their covenant. In every generation this religion of ours was transmitted by the trustworthy and the upright, they negated the interpretations of the heretics and the extremist, they corrected the slips of the scholars and only did what they did for the pleasure of Allah. So may Allah bless the reader grant him insight and may He open up the hearts to what I am going to say, may He inspire me with correct speech and not cause my tongue to slip.
Allah is our Lord and upon Him do we put our trust, He is as He is and isn't like the creation, no imagination can imagine Him. Unfortunately, in these last days, people have rose and have caused misguidance to become prevalent in their never ending quest for fame. These people read some of the books, misunderstood their content, followed the slips of those who slipped and destroyed the affair of the people. Allah is my Lord and He is enough for me, I am in no need of the people nor are they in need of me but all are in need of Allah whom is in no need.
Some of the people have thus gone astray, they have imagined Allah to be a body in a place who changes from state to state. These people misunderstood the subtle nature of athari creed and disparaged the ashairah and maturidia, they labeled us as jahmiyyah without detailed knowledge of our creed nor the creed of the jahmiyyah. Allah's refuge is sought from speaking without knowledge. May Allah assist me in shedding some light on this issue.
Allah has mentioned many things in His book and many things have come through the sunnah, from these matters are those things that are clear like the oneness of Allah while other things require a more detailed explanation. From those matters are His statements regarding His attributes, like His being attributed with a yad (this is often translated as hand). The people fell into many groups regarding these and differences arouse, blood was shed and takfir made but all of this had died out till some sick people sought to revive it. They are those whom I have described and their statements must be looked into. They say "Allah has a hand and it means a littral hand, but the kayfiyyah (howness/modality) is different to ours and whoever says that the meaning is different to the meaning when used for us is a person of biddah" and this is their call. So what are their proofs? Their proofs are the statements of taqiudeen Ahmed ibn taymiyyah as well as some quotes from the salaf and really they are just repeating the arguments of taqiudeen. The quotes they use from the salaf include "we believe in it upon its outward", "we passover it's outward as it has come", "we believe in them bi la kayf (without a how/modality)". And no doubt these statements have indeed been transmitted but how these are to be understood is where the difference lies so when we look into the books of the likes of imam nawwawi who preceded taqiudeen and was more knowledgeable in hadith than him we find him describing the way of the salaf to be tafweed of meaning (that is to say affirming them while saying Allah knows best their meanings) and likewise we find this to have been the position of the hanabila during, before, and after taqiudeen Ahmed ibn taymiyyah. For this reason we find that all the teachers of taqiudeen Ahmed ibn taymiyyah did this tafweed of meaning yet ibn taymiyyah insisted that the true aqidah of the salaf was tafweed of howness/modality, so how did he arrive at this understanding? Did he receive this understanding from his teachers? No. Rather he read the books and came to this understanding on his own but there are a few problems with his understanding. Firstly how was it that none of the salaf managed to transmit this understanding of their words to their students? How can this be possible when Allah has preserved this religion? Secondly, what do we do about the transmissions from the salaf where some of them did tawil (interpreting these)? Thirdly, if the difference is in howness why then did they say bi la kayf (without how)? And these are severe difficulties for those who follow taqiudeen Ahmed ibn taymiyyah. And even if they cling to statements like "we believe in them upon their outward" this can mean "outward wording" and isn't necessarily outward meaning. But also the ummah has agreed that Allah isn't a body, and the outward meaning of hand (yad), in the language of the Arabs, is "that what extends from the finger tip to the shoulder", so how then can someone keep repeating outward meaning? And if someone is in doubt regarding the agreement that Allah isn't a Jism (body), then why is it that the ummah referred to a deviant sect as mujasima (those who make Allah a body)?
The one with insight will realise what is to be realised and will thus know who are the real people of biddah. But I tell you the truth, we could in principle reduce the statements of ibn taymiyyah to differences in semantics but the issue is that the common people have become confused and no matter how many times these people say "we are not mujasima" it's blatantly obvious that their students and followers are mujasima. So look at this, we have this clown who calls himself "dawah man" and he said "the side of Allah" while rubbing his own side, is there a clearer way of asking to be killed? Yet his teacher, abdurahman hasan, runs around trying to attack the ashairah yet can't correct the clear tajsim present in his star student. The truth is these people only focus on these unclear matters due to a diseases in their hearts, and it's not me who has diagnosed such people but it was Allah (see the 7th aya of the 3rd surah).
I've said some of what could have been said and I shall give you all advise, stick to what is known, don't seek out strange ideas nor sit with these corrupted people. Allah's hand is over the congregation, there are scholars the entire ummah agreed on, take from those scholars and give them preference over the slips of other scholars and refer the ambiguous statements back to these scholars. Concern yourself with what's your business, most of you don't know the knowledge that is fardh but want to debate who's on it and who's off it. And what can my words do to a people who read the Quran yet don't act by it. Allah is enough for me.
